The International Union of Architects (UIA) ¡V Region IV
Work Programme on ¡¥Architecture For All¡¦
Since the year 2001, HKIA has hosted the UIA Region IV Work Programme on ¡§Architecture for All¡¨.
This UIA Work Programme had co-organized with ARCASIA on three seminar / workshop during their annual Congress / Forum. The joint events were held in Singapore in 2001, in Dhaka Bangladesh in 2003 and in Macau in 2004.
This UIA Work Program has also reported to the UIA in the UIA Congress in Berlin 2002, and Istanbul 2005.
Year Plan 2005 to 2008
A. Introduction
Following the meeting with the different directors of the UIA Work Programme on Architecture and the Disabled, we have drafted some recommendations as well as common goals for the work programme and UIA. In the coming three years, we wish to implement the following recommendations.
B. Recommendations for the Work Programme on Architecture and the Disabled:

Education to educators, students should be promoted. It should start from the primary education. Education to Architects, professionals, designers are as important. European Council recommendations from 18 countries in Region 2 provide a good model. |
| 2. |
International architectural competitions shall include Architecture for All in the conditions of the brief and in the assessment as well. One of the jurors shall be from the UIA Work Programme on Architecture for All from that region. |
| 3. |
Awards for accessible built environment in each region. |
| 4. |
Barrier free access ¡Vaccessibility - design for all ¡V technical to social. However, it should not only for ¡§design¡¨ but should be more inclusive. It should be in a global perspective. |
| 5. |
Introduce a web page on Architecture for All in the UIA web page to connect all the regions. Information on the web should be universal accessible. |
| 6. |
Design for all shall include environment and ecological issues. |
C. Year Plan 2005-2008
We have drafted a 3-year plan to meet the above goals.
